  • @VWYL900802 I like your idea of having the compulsories be qualifying events. But I miss the OD. I feel like having to put the pattern dance in interrupts the flow of the SD. I'm a musician and was a dancer when I was younger, so I think that effects what I appreciate as a viewer, ie: musicality and whether the different required elements blend in smoothly with the dance as a whole or are choppy and segmented.

  • @VWYL900802 demand for the competitors.

Honestly, if I were one of the officials, I would keep the compulsories as a qualifying event and still have the short dances around.

and while I'm at it, I think they should make figures as a qualifying event as well.

PS. I'm not old. I'm just a skater.

  • @bandoforlife the SHORT DANCE is a fusion between the compulsory and the OD. Basically, every year, they (the officials I guess) come up with a rhythm as the theme of the competition. The couples are required to include elements from the OD (ie. step sequence, twizzle and a lift) as well as two set pattern (something resembling the compulsory).

I am a pro-compulsory person, just as I support the return of the figures event in the singles competition. But short dance event DID bring a lot more

  • Many of the couples just skate the steps roughly to the beat of the music, but these two are right on with all of the steps! I LOVE it! I really miss the compulsory dances :( but I understand why they were done away with. Unfortunately, it also messed up the original dances! However, since I am just a spectator I no doubt don't understand the intricacies of such decisions (and no, I'm not being sarcastic). Oh well.

  • Gotta luv Scott

"Now we can get to the fun stuff"

    "Now we can have fun!"

"Now I can have so much more FUN!!"

  • Beautiful! :))

  • @lovewalk9: And it IS the compulsories. Sorry to say, but it's just not that interesting for the viewer, though sometimes the entire event can be determined by this segment. The new short dance variant, however, might a good compromise between the compulsories and the original dance. We'll see...

  • @lovewalk9 i agree with you! But unfortunately figure skating is not a very popular sport in italy, like in North America, or even in Europe, also because there is very little interest in it from the media and national television, especially, and the coverage of the events of figure skating is very poor, almost always, the events are broadcast late at night, deferred, and often only on satellite or digital terrestrial. Only the competitions during the Olympics usually are broadcast live so

  • u would think more people would be there
