  • its moments like this that finally make all the years counting thousands of measures of rest worth it to be a brass player.

  • Inbal was terribly represented in his DENON Mahler cycle. His faculties as a conductor are superior to his present day counterparts like Abbado and certainly the ever bland Maazel.

    This is exquisite Mahler.

  • @anthonya13

You should try surviving as a percussionist sometime! :-D

  • @SirGlennGould Does it realy matter whether or not he is flapping his hands? does it affect the sound? Is he mearly lost in the music? (Lenny used to jump).

  • Wow! you can hear the gong and cymbals (in unison) at the end.

  • Really lively, altho not so romantic interpretation. The accents at the start of each beat and the scrupulous rythmical beating makes it much clearer and easier to understand than its counterparts. Altho there is one tedious fact.

WHY IS INBAL FLAPPING HIS HANDS !!! XD It' s ridiculous !! XD

  • the tenor is amazing in this performance! but i have heard better instrumentalists and other soloists for this peice. its still amazing in my opinion.

  • Amazing amazing performance.

As a Chinese I SO wish our music industry can learn at least SOMETHING from your "enemy"

  • Did the organist miss his / her footing near the end? Otherwise, Bravo!!!

  • I honestly find Inbal's DENON Mahler cycle one of the most satisfying (and original!) on disc - certainly, the 8th from that set is right up there with the very best. I hear what you say, however, and I can only imagine that, if the DENON recordings aren't representative of Inbal's Mahler, then his best must be exceptional indeed!

  • Each Mahler symphony is a huge canvas, meticulously painted, with attention to each detail. Maazel seems to want to change them into neon signs. He tends to drag out dramatic elements with slow tempi, overemphasize parts of the orchestration by bringing instruments to the forefront which were meant to blend with the orchestra. Overall, his approach tends to make these magnificent works sound bland or cheap, by comparison to other conductors.

  • why is maazel so bad for mahler?
