This tutorial was redone to make the screen a little clearer. Each time I make new tutorials I am getting ideas to make the future one's better to some degree.
This Blender tutorial just shows you quickly how to use drivers to make a pen or pencil as well as ink (or lead) follow the path of a curve together in sync to draw a character. So far I haven't found any scripts to do the job and it might take a bit of time if you have many characters. Also my next project is getting it to lift up and start on a new character to make words. I saw a bunch of demonstrations but no tutorials on how to do this.
I tried drawing alpha-numeric characters in the past many different ways including using the beta of something called dynamic paint to no avail. It just didn't look quite as good. Later if I get time I'll upload a 2nd tutorial video I made already which uses a beveled curve instead of a plane as the ink/lead object.
This video is nothing fancy and the final output wasn't rendered but you should get the idea.
NOTE: If you decide to move the text from the original position (or curve you're following) you must set the objects origin to 0,0,0
Thanks to some great help at blenderartists.org I got this to work!
BTW this is my first screen capture tutorial and it doesn't have sound but keystrokes are displayed in a dialog during the video.
