Rachel talks to Sloane Wallace, the new producer, at the Brava Christmas party. Sloane has already gone over the personnel files at KBAY. Rachel tells Sloane that if she has something to say, say it, just make sure she says it to Rachel first. Sloane agrees, and tells Rachel that their first step should be a better production team across the board. Sloane isn't sure that Paulina is qualified for her job, but Rachel thinks Paulina is very talented. Sloane needs a crack team behind her to turn things around. Rachel tells Sloane that Sloane will have carte blanche to do whatever she likes AFTER she has met with the current staff. Sloane agrees that that's very fair. Felicia arrives then, with Jake and Paulina hot on her heels, and just as Rachel is about to introduce Felicia to Sloane, Felicia starts going on to Rachel about "this half-baked hatchet girl from New York" that Rachel has hired to produce Felicia's show, not knowing that Sloane is standing behind Felicia and can hear every word. Felicia tells Rachel she sometimes wonders if Rachel could be losing her mind. Rachel finally does introduce Felicia to "the hatchet lady from New York." Felicia says if she can't take a joke, she shouldn't be in this business. Rachel then introduces Paulina to Sloane Wallace, after which Jake introduces himself as "Jake McKinnon, video director and producer." Sloane is very complimentary to Felicia about her abilities to work an audience and conduct an interview. Cass arrives and asks to borrow Felicia for a few minutes to discuss some business, so they go over to a corner to talk privately. Before going with Rachel to meet one of the directors, Sloane tells Paulina and Jake that she hopes they get a chance to talk later. After Rachel and Sloane have left, Jake tells Paulina that he hopes Felicia didn't buy any of that stuff from Sloane. Paulina thought Sloane sounded sincere. Jake says Saddam Hussein sounded sincere too. Cass asks Felicia how she's doing, and says that she seems to be doing well. Felicia asks if he expected her to have her head in the punch bowl with a lampshade on it. He says of course not. Felicia assures Cass she's fine, and it's scary to think of what would have happened if she kept drinking, and she tells Cass that she owes her. When Cass says Felicia owes Rachel too, Felicia says maybe. Cass asks if there's trouble, and Felicia says she thought so but she's probably wrong. Cass tells Felicia she's never wrong. Felicia says how true that is, and she and Cass laugh. Sloane then approaches Paulina and Jake and asks to talk to Paulina. Paulina asks Jake to please get her a cocktail. Jake heads off, but instead of going to get Paulina a drink, he goes to talk to Rachel. Jake tells Rachel that Sloane's a real powerhouse and it's a good move to have her on Rachel's team. Rachel sarcastically says she's glad Jake feels that way because she's been worrying about that all day. Jake tells Rachel she shouldn't alienate him because he can be a valuable asset. Rachel retorts that the day that happens, she'll hang up her boots. Jake asks if she's referring to the ones with the steel tips. As she's walking away from Jake, Rachel flashes him a thumbs-up over her shoulder. Jake just smirks and shakes his head. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
