The government, both sides of it, wish to deny me of my individual rights to keep the fruits of my labor...therefore, they are not defenders of minorities. If someone feels that it is their civic responsibility to give generously to the poor, the feel free, I won't stop you.

A civic responsibility to look after the poor? So, I shut off my cable, gave up smoking, gave up my sports car, and a couple other smaller luxuries such as eating out, just so I could make my monthly responsibilities, but it is still my responsibility to take care of someone else? The "poor" don't have less than me because I am greedy. They have less than me, because the government keeps giving them handouts, and they have no need to provide for themselves.
