40 year old, experienced trainer Dawn Brancheau was drowned and killed on Wednesday at Sea Worlds Shamu Stadium. Dawn Brancheau was married to a water skier whom she met at Sea world. The couple was married for 13 years and had no kids. She is survived by her mother and 5 siblings. Her mother describes Brancheau as a soft hearted and loving daughter. She had a lot of friends and her relationship with her siblings was excellent. The whole family had gathered to greet her on the premier of her own show with the whale.
According to reports, Dawn Brancheau was rubbing the whale after the show when the whale pulled her into the water and held her captive, the Sea World Parks animal training head Chuck Tompkins on Wednesday said to the reporters. However, the police had said that she accidentally slipped into the pond and was killed by the whale. One of the witnesses has reportedly revealed to the media that the trainer was describing to the visitors about the show when the killer whale Tillikum attacked Dawn Brancheau and grabbed her by her waist and started thrashing her. The trainer was declared dead when she was brought out of water.
A truly sad and tragic event.

  • am I wrong, or is there not one recorded orca attack on a human in the wild?

  • i feel sorry for her family, but seriously Killer Whales are not on this earth for our entertainment. they should be free. that whale would of most likely been put down afterwards, and all because it was made to swim round in a tiny pool and perform stunts. this should teach people a lesson. that WIILD animals should be just that, and not captive.

  • omg i just looked it up today and its the 2 year annversy of her death! sad and weird

  • @FayHannahRose95 I agree (Even though I've seen one of these shows, and enjoyed it immensely). But if an animal is endangered (even if we made it so), shouldn't we try and preserve the species? Having them perform for fish probably isn't the best way to do it, but maybe they do it not just for entertainment, but for money so they can keep taking care of these creatures as best they can? That's just my view on things, at least. :3

  • I don't blame the animal. I mean honestly, where's the fire in that poor creature! People have to learn that they can't get every damned thing they want! These creatures show us everyday that they don't want to be put through this, and they just NEVER listen! So this is what they deserve for doing that! No animal should have to go through that! But sadly almost all of them do! Its not like it's a dog or a cat! It's not meant to be a pet, or anything of the sort!

  • I am reporting this for faking the title

  • 0:46 ew! shes tongueing a whale

  • stop making up bullshit story's about THE KILL WHALE when its not ttrruuee

  • @susterovic Well it is the biggest whale in captivity AND the biggest breeder (21 or $o off$pring) so there'$ NO WAY they are gonna kill the whale !! It's also ridiculous that most people have a high regaurd for the trainers and may believe they're marine biologists are somethin respectable... trainers only make $15-$18/hour ! AND use food to coax the whales into doing everything, after the whale killed Dawn it wasnt fed regularly for a while to "condition" it to think it did something bad!

  • i hope the whale is still alive, it was just its instinct and im sure dawn wouldnt wish if people would kill the whale x

  • @FayHannahRose95 where do you get your facts, of orcas being destroyed for hurting or killing trainers? They don't usually do that to elephants, or any other large animal that squashes it's human handler. I can't imagine them risking the public relations nightmare .
