This is a short photo compilation of a 1950's era bathtub to shower conversion I performed in for a General Contractor in Anderson, South Carolina last year. The most challenging part of this project was the home owners request to save as much of the existing 1950's tile as possible, yet still provide a aesthetically pleasing bathroom presentation. I can take credit for the color selections, though I'd be proud to do so. It is to her daughtes that full credit is due.

  • @JamieSaives Hi Jamie, thanks for the comments. The mud for the wall and curb is the same, in this case. It's Sakrete Type S Mortar Mix and is available from my local big box store in 60 # bags. It's an acceptable convenient mix when small quantities are required. However, the original installation material would have been mixed on the job and consisted of sand, cement and lime. The veneer plaster wall system you mentioned shouldn't be used in a shower. Hope that helps and thanks again.

  • Thanks for posting this video. The finished shower looks great. I do have one question though. What are you using to "mud" the wall (with the lathe)? Also, when you say you "poured the curb" what material are you using? Most old houses have a layer of sheetrock closest to the wall followed by plaster on top of that. I'm getting ready to do the same in our home, so I hope you will answer. Thanks!
