Well In my opinion your half right, because your do forget the one who is (for me) the best true contralto ever, I name the sing goddess Ewa Podles !!!!
The interpretation of Pentcheva is truly awesome I agree with you, but believe me, Podles' version is memorable and make date in the history of the role.
If you haven't go to see the video, for sure you'll love it !!!

Excellent, she classifies herself as a mezzo? She sounds very much more like a true contralto.
