Advertisers help create corporate friendly attitudes. The power of ads lies in the fact that most consumers believe Ads don't affect them. Why then do they spend more and more money each year on this tool? Why is the U.S. the only country outside of New Zealand to allow pharmaceuticals to advertise on TV? Advertising's primary function is to stimulate consumer appetites by fostering a sense of lack or want for which it promises a remedy. Advertising takes up to 21 minutes per prime time hour. TV programming must be more independent from advertising to be more accurate and to include points of view from all members of society. While this video, "Don't be a TV: Television Victim, was made in 1992 the information is still relevant. Advertisers today use brand appearances and attempt to brand very young children with their logos to win brand loyalty. For example, consider the ever-present Coke glass during American Idol shows. To order the full Silver Apple Award winning video by Jenai Lane and Ann Simonton, go to www.mediawatch.com and get your DVD today!! All donations are tax deductible. Try turning commercial TV OFF. • Advertising doesnt just sell human emotions, it says they are trivial, therefore being human is trivial!

'What if commercials sold ideas to make the world a better place instead of selling products?'

  • @lesjconj

Your first sentence is a bit non-sequitor.

  • RETARD!

  • This is why my mom has always muted the commercial breaks and why I have always dissected ads-whoa at 1:32 seconds you see the guy who played Uncle Lester from The Fresh Prince. . .good actor-anyway what was I talking about. Oh, God Damn it. You were right.

These ads (like trailers) always fry our synapses into actually believing that it's good. Roland Emmerich!!!! Michael Bay!!! Ugghhhh. . .

  • We have choice, yes. But only to a certain extent. The human mind is open to psychological suggestion and day in day out we are being conditioned by these media influences. What's 'normal', 'acceptable' and moral are all being subject to 'corporate censorship'. It can be extremely invasive- e.g how women are sexualized.

  • @2:33 "Is this a choice?" Yes, stupid! Corporations have the choice to show whatever they want, People have the choice not to buy their products, though I doubt you chose to take place in this segment on your own cognizance! @2:56 "What if commercials sold ideas instead of products?" Television isn't financed by ideas, so television woudln't exist and your parents would be liquidating your tuition to pay the rent... these children make terrible debaters with such infantile points of view.

  • Wellm 1:13-1:14

  • 1:14 LMAO!
