  • WarwicklCAST could you tell me if the straw put together in the UK will be sufficient to meet the fuel (petroleum) needs of UK when converted to ethanol.

  • I spoke to Dr Kerry Burton about this and his response was:

'The UK straw production (wheat, barley and rape) is approx 20 million tonnes annually. If we make an assumption of 10% efficiency of conversion to liquid fuel i.e. 2million tonnes, this equates to about 5% of the road transport usage.

  • part 2...

These are approximate figures with an assumption of efficiency of conversion (not fully tested). However it should be pointed out that in future, renewable energy will come from a variety of sources, and it is likely that plant wastes will be part of that formula.'

  • How much more fertilizer must be shipped in to offset the straw, as that is returned to the soil ?

  • Thanks for the explanation Dan!

  • great now the price of straw is going to go up

  • if the engines are at 25% it only 5% but if the internal combustion reaches 75% effecant that because 20%

  • Lol, I just type "Ethanol" or "BioDiesel" and comment on those videos

  • Damn falcon. Your everywhere!!!!

  • Because I'm tired of the naive hype.
