Yep, that's exactly right! What's also interesting is in the years leading into the Great Depression the top tax rate was only around 35%. Funny how all this works.

Yes Rep. Ryan -- let's hear your budget ideas! These are the same tired ideas we've heard from the GOP for the last eight years.
How did those GOP budgets work out for Rep. Ryan's district? The three cities wit the highest unemployment in WI are Beloit, Janesville and Racine -- all in Paul Ryan District.
Janesville and Beloit have higher unemployment than Detroit...

your budget proposes tax cuts again for the rich and no social services such as health care for our children. cannot do. i do agree however that the marriage tax and the death should be abolished completely.
-
Now they want to fight for the people even when they sent spending bill after spending bill that Junior would never veto. Sorry guys you cannot have it both ways. Enjoy the outside looking in

i unironically hope that eric cantor gets shot in the face, his children raped and skinned alive and all of his supporters stashed away into alaskan ghettos where they are forced to eat tree bark and snow for survival. vote for me and i will bring you these things.

There was also a 65% tax rate at the time. The top tax rate went up to 90% before coming back down to where it is today.
-
I hope your kids and grandkids - who there are not enough of to pay for this enjoy about a 50% tax rate.

I'm not talking about war. I'm talking about spending. See that huge blue peak on the left? That huge chunk of change created the jobs that ended the Depression... So, it would stand to reason the best course of action would be to make the right side of the graph look like the left side, right?
Now imagine instead of building plans and tanks we spend all that money creating jobs in infrastructure, green energy, etc... Damn, I'm convinced! Obama needs to hurry up with the spending already!
-
Well who would you like to start a war with and do you really think with all the NIMBY people they want to have shipyards, and war plants being built everywhere? Do you think handing out money to people without personal responsibility is the answer? If war was the answer, why weren't we in it in 1939? Errant spending made the depression last longer.
-
Where was all this "fiscal responsibility" from 2000 to 2008?
-
just in.
Because it's said by some nut job on the internet makes it true.

GOP is slowly learning pre-school math
-
Whoa whoa whoa. What's up with that gigantic blue spike on the left of the graph? Oh my god... it's the war time spending that finally ended Great Depression. We wouldn't want a repeat of that!
-
This just in: George W Bush did NOT preside over the greatest expansion of government in American history. Thats a dirty, liberal lie.
-
Hahah their charts go right into 2080. GOP is our new fortunetellers. I wonder if they palmread?
-
Nope! Remember the Republicans were very happy that defense spending was added onto Obama's budget since now they can say he's a big spender.
-
congratulations on grasping the concept of "numbers" and by proxy, "a budget"
Does that graph include the cost of the Iraq war?
