Within a single generation, digital media and the World Wide Web have transformed virtually every aspect of modern culture, from the way we learn and work to the ways in which we socialize and even conduct war. But is the technology moving faster than we can adapt to it? And is our 24/7 wired world causing us to lose as much as we've gained?

In Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier, FRONTLINE presents an in-depth exploration of what it means to be human in a 21st-century digital world. Continuing a line of investigation she began with the 2008 FRONTLINE report Growing Up Online, award-winning producer Rachel Dretzin embarks on a journey to understand the implications of living in a world consumed by technology and the impact that this constant connectivity may have on future generations. "I'm amazed at the things my kids are able to do online, but I'm also a little bit panicked when I realize that no one seems to know where all this technology is taking us, or its long-term effects," says Dretzin.

  • If I knew I was being watched by some dumb fat perv like that I wouldn't learn anything. I'd chuck the damn thing out the window.

  • That fat cunt is sick! This needs to stop. The state should fuck off and so should these sicko control freak teachers.

  • i agree with the principals idea that putting technology into the school makes it easier for them.

  • Sure, let's stay with the original methods like using a sun-dial to record the passage of time. That's original and doesn't require electronic technology so it must be better.

  • @Banzaishuriken A kid is a baby goat. And animals only require observation to ensure that they perform according to the wishes of their owners. Without observation a living creature will ALWAYS get something done. Action only ceases at death.

  • @dharmashooter you know these kids NEED to be watched when you give them computers like this or they will never get anything done. I think it's a bad idea just to give kids computers in the classroom to being with!

  • this video is distracting me from finishing my theatre essay right now!!!! its sooooo distracting.

  • this video is distracting me from finishing my theatre essay write now!!!! its sooooo distracting.

  • I am an award winning screenwriter. And I can tell you that most scripts are crap and most young writers have not done their homework. They have not read the classics. They have not developed their vocabulary skills. They have not become emotionally developed individuals. And as a result you see childish material being produced. Because many of the people who are green lighting these projects are in the boat as the writers. And the people running are society have failed also.

  • Watching kids like this is completely wrong. News stories have emerged where schools have been observing kids in their home and bedroom. If a school gives a child a laptop, parents should be very suspicions of this. While the reports of schools spying on children now might be scorned, this will probably be different in a couple of years time with a modified approach by the schools.
