That is exactly how I have done this for years!
You can take out the left over silk as you pull the leaves back after it is cooked on the BBQ, to use as your handle! Do not remove the leaves before you cook, use it as your handle! Then butter up and salt to taste, once done!

supposed to split the husk a little just enough to remove the silk. close the husk back and tie on the end and then grill. everything else is ok with what you are doing. I would butter it in the middle before but once you cook the silk on the cob they stay in between the rows of corn and you will pick it out of your teeth for hours!
