Driving near Reems Creek in Weaverville North Carolina, about 15 minutes North of Asheville, and saw this BMW rolling pretty fast. 20 seconds later, near Hawks Landing, I drove up on the accident. He wiped out on that corner and was in the woods. Called 911, ran out to help and stop traffic, then grabbed the flip camera after the Reems Creek Fire Department http://ReemsCreekFD.com arrived. Mission Hospital's MAMA helicopter ambulance headed to the scene, I think they landed next to the Carp fishing lakes on that big field about 6 miles down Reems Creek to pick up the victim. Seeing everyone (Firefighters, EMS, Police, Civilians, Nurses, Doctors) coming from everywhere to help was inspiring and amazing. It gave me so much faith in this little community North of Asheville. Sent some updates to Twitter also http://twitter.com/AskAsheville. Thank you everyone! for pitching in on this rescue on Reems Creek.

  • What I really mean to say was that they can't go in the other directions because the counties are dry, so they speed down Paint Fork & Reems Creek to get to the ABC store. Now they can just go into Weaverville for the new ABC Store, and take 19/23..

  • I know, maybe they will take the highway instead of Reems Creek going at those speeds

  • Well I hope so. Many people using Reems Creek to get over to Barnardsville speed like crazy. They pass you doing 80 mph and up, racing in either directions, some acting as if they were intoxicated, and I think a lot has to do with it being a short cut to the closest store that sells alcohol or the Woodfin ABC store. This is because Madison County is a dry county.

  • I know, coming from Barnardville, they race like mad to make it a "shortcut" when it really isn't. They just assume there are no police on Reems Creek, used to be some near Vance's Birthplace a lot (Troopers and Buncombe) but have not seen them in awhile.

  • OMG, I hope the person is ok. This will wake not only him but also other people to STOP SPEEDING!

  • Someone on Topix said they heard it was a 10-56 or something, which means drinking/drunk etc.

  • That doesn't make much sense janie237. Barnardsville is not in Madison County. It's in Buncombe County. I don't see how going over the mountain from Barnardsville then through Reems Creek would be a short-cut for anyone coming from Madison County.

  • Unreal....

  • my dad went to that one. hes on wfd

  • When I saw the aftermath of this accident, I wasn't sure if anyone could survive this.

  • It could have been him hitting me if he did not take that first smaller curve the right way
