Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya is sending its African gospel style musical group, Afrizo to sing in concerts across the U.S. in fall 2009. Afrizo sings music from South, Central, and East Africa, drawing on rich African traditions. The group hopes to raise $350,000 for scholarships to send promising young people to college who wouldnt otherwise be able to attend. On their second U.S. tour, Afrizo will be visiting Minnesota, Oregon, Illinois, Washington D.C., South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. For specific concert dates, click on the schedule button on the left. Afrizo is led by Hellen Mtawali, who teaches at Daystar. writes and choreographs Afrizos songs and dances. The group is made up of Daystar students, and eight of them will be touring the US with Hellen this fall. Afrizos music combines English, Swahili, and other African languages, dance, and story-telling about how Daystar is equipping servant leaders for Africa.
