Located at the west side of Moon Lake in Ningbo city, the Tianyi Pavillion Library (天一阁) the oldest surviving library in China, founded in 1561 during Ming Dynasty by Defense Right Attendant Fan Qin. In its heydays, it boasted a collection of 70,000 volume of antique books.

  • this is so beautiful! do you know what kind of books there are in there? is it all in chinese? do you know if there are any books about healing? like healing kidney failure or remedies? what kind of books are there?

    most books are about local history of different cities, other subjects include politics, music, acupuncture. most of the are printed, some are the only copies in the entire world. And yes, they are all in Chinese, ancient Chinese, which is quite different from modern Chinese. That's all I know. :P

  • @normalperson yeah if u go to ningbo make sure to visit tiyani square which is like the major shopping place which is quite good as well as all the shops etc nearby as well as the bell tower there. other then that try Beilun which is nearby and is quite interesting. all up ningbo is a great chinese city. with great seafood. just make sure to order ocean fish over river fish or u will regret it

  • @normalperson its all chinese and u cant get the books out u can barely look at them, its more a money making place now days, although its still a great place to go as is all of ningbo. but yeah the guy who founded it in the 1500's actually disowned a son for selling a book lol
