"Changes Going On in the Mirror" - Michael Jackson / 2Pac / Marvin Gaye Mashup

I was listening to 2Pac's "Changes" when I realized that it pairs nicely with Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror". I started working on putting them together when I found out it's already been done on Youtube. Never being one to settle, I decided to add to the idea by including another legend: Marvin Gaye.

Not only did I add the vocal parts of "What's Going On", I also included portions of the piano, vibraphone, saxophone, string orchestra, James Jamerson's bass line, and the banter of the 1970-71 Detroit Lions.

In order to facilitate the inclusion of "What's Going On", I had to do some transposition (MJ and 2Pac came down a whole step, Marvin went up a half-step). Unfortunately this results in making MJ and 2Pac sound exaggeratedly deeper and Marvin sounds slightly nasal.

I think the fact that you had to transpose each artist speaks to giving it a fresh sound. It's interesting to hear how each of their voices has a different expression when it's out of their (or our) comfort zone. And I have to say that I know it wasn't easy adding the Marvin Gaye to this. There is so much texture, reverb on his tracks that it makes it hard not to make the rest sound muddy, but you did a great job.
