Tom A. Warner captured a bright Geminid fireball on the night of 12/12/07 (12/13/07-0654:51 UT). Tom had a Astrovid Stellacam EX black and white video camera with Computar 2.6mm f1.0 lens recording the night sky. When Tom reviewed the video, Tom was shocked to see the bright meteor. When Tom showed the video to his wife, she remembered seeing a bright flash that night that lit up the backyard and wondered if there was lightning in the area. Rapid City, SD. this phenomena is due to where the meteors come from. rocks floating in space are extremely cold. once they enter earth, they usually burn the ice outer layer and eventually the rock. but if the rock is quite big, if it lands on earth, the core of the meteor would still be freezing cold, thus more or less, the meteorite would be cold
it's actually freezing cold...weird but true. if ever you find a fresh meteorite, it would be as cold as the turkey in your freezer, or even colder. in any case, do use gloves.
