Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and Prince Philip, the Duke of
Edinburgh, are welcomed by the President of Turkey and his wife with full military honours at the Presidential Palace in Ankara. Here's more on their visit.
The Royals arrived in Turkey on Tuesday. This is Queen Elizabeth's first visit to Turkey after thirty-seven years.
Turkish President, Mohammed Gul along with his wife Hayrunnisa, welcomed the The Queen and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The Royal couple first stop is Anitkabir which is the mausoleum of Kemal Ataturk -the founder of modern Turkish Republic.
Later on they are scheduled to visit northwestern province of Bursa. On Thursday they will visit Istanbul, where they will host a reception in honour of Turkish President Abdullah Gul and his spouse onboard the HMS Illustrious. It is an aircraft carrier of the British Royal Navy that is accompanying the Queen during her visit.
The monarch is scheduled to attend a reception to be hosted by the British Embassy in Ankara. The Queen and her husband will return to Ankara to bid farewell to President Gul and his wife before departing late Friday.
