It does sound very similar, but I actually created most of the game sound FX using a program called "cfxr". It's pretty cool and really easy to use. (if you're looking for that retro sound)

Thanks! It was very satisfying, except, I really wish I hadn't rushed so much toward the end of the contest. I felt like my prototype ended up playing better than this version.

Once I finish re-building it, I plan on doing lots of play testing.

REALbasic, w/ SuperSpriteSurface (OpenGL Plugin based framework)

I've been considering rewriting the game in SDL/OpenGL when I'm done building my Level Editor. It's a difficult choice because I've been using rb for RAD purposes over the last couple years, and I feel like its capable, but I know I can make it better with C++.
