  • @Phemar Hey, I didn't want to imply in any way that though "Carmen" was filmed in the slums of S. Africa, that the slums equal all! All nations have plenty of slums. 7 years ago, I went to S. Africa and saw the beauty of S. Africa, as well as the not so beautiful. That is what makes up all nations. Every nation has ghetto's or slums (ghetto being an Italian word). From J'burg-Durban-Cape Town-plains..all gorgeous. Slums, too, have an energy that is positive. The original took place in the slums.

  • @ferrierepc :) its Xhosa one of south africa's 12 official languages

  • @xhosamama hi.. got mine off ebay.. great film

  • @Phemar Yes, I have been to South Africa. I don't quite get what you are disagreeing or agreeing with me about! I wrota that comment so long ago. Regarding the slums, the original was also set in a slum, but in Spain, not South Africa, therefore the language, prose, berbage does not really have to be changed as if they were doind a "Carmen" rendition in Beverly Hills, California, which of course, which would call for total rewrite. Have a nice day!

  • @ferrierepc it's the slums, of course the culture's going to be different. the whole country isnt like that :/ i live in cape town about 50 km away from where this was shot and it's completely different... look up fish hoek, simon's town etc. really nice places.

  • guys where can i get this movie?! looks interesting...

  • I love this version! Just watched it on Sundance and looking to own it on dvd!

  • Ok, some could compare this to 'Carmen Jones'...so ahead of its time, but this film, which I just saw on Sundance, which made me want to look it up online, is so different and I do agree that kids should see it, all should see it for yes, it is 'Carmen' done by people of color but these people of color! are singing in what I am assuming is Swahili or a S. African dialect and takes place in the S. African slums. Just astounding and the culture change from Europe to S. Africa, amazing.

  • any idea where I can download it? Can someone upload it in isohunt or pirate bay? I would be great full

  • This film made me cry as I watched. Sheer brilliance, even if opera isn't your thing..you gotta feel it
