Second year SAIT students in diploma program Automated Systems Engineering Technology are responsible for completing practical projects which are designed to nurture critical thinking and problem solving relevant to real world industry challenges. Our final project is underway, however before we can put together our robot we have to test out a new differential motor to see if it has the cojones to raise our robot by tilting the triangular treads. We started by using a more controlled experiment, however the motor controllers we have can't seem to withstand the excess current the differential draws when under such an extreme load. We are also concerned that the batteries won't last long enough under such circumstances, so we still have much more testing and calculations to do before we can move onto the final product. Stay tuned to see what kind of beastly robot we end up with!
