Birkdale - Before the Fire

(For Hearing Impaired Children) in Southport.

What feels like an age ago children actually used to come here, me included.

This is, sorry - WAS Birkdale School FHIC.

Fire has torn through 'The Boys Floor'. There was a staircase at the back we once had a fire drill there at 3am.

This was the real thing.

This short film marks 10 years since I set foot here as a pupil, but oh look what happened, one sad day in 2003. It wasn't invaded by aliens or Bin Laden or anything, it just went and closed, and that was that.

I went to this school as a pupil in 1975. A fantastic deaf boarding school- geared towards oralism. It had a victorian feel about the place- strict ! Its a real shame they closed this down I wish the Govt would stop this happening all over the UK.I woner if Miss Clarke is still alive !, God bless her I would love to see her again ( Headmistress )

Well it does not appear that the Polish workers are doing a very good job letting a fine building go into decline like this. Disgusting in fact :(

I happen to know this building is being converted into apartments...

I wouldn't even bother going inside - there is 24/7 security in there now...

Plus all the Polish workers living in there...

Dear God. That is very sad to watch. Such a lovely building let to rot like that. But that is the way things go in Southport. As it is a listed building they deliberately let if fall into disrepair and then they have an excuse to demolish the whole thing down. Shame on the people of Southport for letting it happen. The school could have been turned into a wonderful hotel and conferencing facility !! Thanks for showing this but what a shame all the same :(
