Nation columnist Naomi Klein explores a key argument from her new book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism: After 9/11 the Bush Administration launched a new economy, driven by the notion of an endless war against an undefined notion of evil. Read more in her 2005 Nation column "The Rise of Disaster Capitalism."

As usual, anti-liberals flock to Naomi Klein to post profanity-laden hatespeech.

And also a liar. I've read her book and it contains lies about other people like Milton Friedman

The capitalism of the American Dream is long gone. Capitalism used to be risk and return, and, invest your savings into a little business and work hard and get rich. That capitalism is dead. Bank bailouts are not capitalism! "3,000 Walmart store openings nationally and found that each store caused a net decline of about 150 jobs (as competing retailers downsized and closed) and lowered total wages paid to retail workers." Hello! That is not capitalism any more!

If we could just sit down like adults and each admit the flaws in each others' ideological sacred cows, maybe things would work out?

I'm a liberal-socialistic by temperament, but I acknowledge certain aspects of socialism are naive regarding human nature (like freeloading and incentivisation).

Can we get neolib/cons agreeing that their policies can (w/o regulation) create problems with mass poverty, inequalities of opportunity, and concentration of wealth in the hands of the few?

Something happened to her brain causing her to come up with these lame theories. Some sort of shock perhaps? See "Johan Norberg vs Naomi Klein" on you tube.

Personally I prefer what you call Capitalist Democracy over any other system known on any given day.

You are so right. Of course in the USSR, China, Somalia all people "owned their own homes" and lived old enough to pay it off. Unlike those people in those bad bad USA, Canada, Sweden, France. So right! :)))

its also strange that animals in nature are free to exist and live off the land anywhere they chose and not forced to serve others in an extortion system of physical and psychological slavery as we, ..humans arent even allowed a piece of mud to build a hut on

thats strange cos capitalism is what locked ppl out of basic liberty for years because free markets are free to price hike on bullshit speculation but wages are supressed so that you fail, and are denied the basics of existence, such as owning your own home, without insane income requirements, plus not even living old enough to pay it off and enjpy anything capitalism is the law of inequality and hopelessness dont expect a broken system to recover when u dont even alllow low income pp to live

Nonsense, he was writing about the fact that crisis creates change in economics, not that he desired crisis, or that he had plans in the eventuality of that crisis. There is no lie that a liar won't tell.
