I put this photo tribute together as tribute to the Soo Line #1003. This 2-8-2 Mikado for the last 10 years has been running in and around Southeastern Wisconsin. I have been able to photograph this great locomotive and crew over those ten years. It has been decided that with the #1003 coming up on its 15 yr inspection that Saturday November 13, 2010 for the Hartford Christmas Parade will be the last time that it will be steamed up. Unless funds can be secured to pay for the rebuild. THANK YOU TO ALL INVOLVED WITH #1003 over the years. #1003 don't sleep to long.

  • It appears that the Soo #1003 is going to be rebuilt. GREAT NEWS !! Money has been donated to get #1003 running again sometime in 2012 maybe. THANKS !!

  • BTW..where is the music from? Forest Gump?

  • @MUEagle2002 Yes it is. The Forest Gump Suite. I've always liked this piece of music, just something about it and I thought it fit the photos pretty well. Thanks Keith

  • I saw here when I lived in Wisconsin. I will miss her. I've been pushing for O Gauge manufacturers to make a model of the 1003. Is she up for her FRA inspection? Is that the issue? How much do they need to refurbish her...?

  • @MUEagle2002 Yes the #1003 is up for the 15 year FRA inspection. Since the locomotive is owned by several people the cost of the rebuild is the problem. I have no real estimate on the cost since it depends on what the inspection reveals. There is always hope that something will happen to get the old girl fired up again in the not so distant future.

  • Very nice collection of stills. Are these all your images or various photographers?

  • @recumblelink Thanks for the nice comments. Those are all shots that I have taken of the #1003. With the locomotive being only about 30 miles from home it was great. Keith

  • Enjoyed your program. Having been on the photo freight last friday, I was fortunate to see the old girl perform. Thanks for putting the program together and the music

    selection was great! -R Tubbesing

  • You should be pleased with the results of your efforts to photograph #1003. I had not seen her until Nov. 23 in Edgerton.
