BTW I agree - if you really want Latvian culture, the villages and provincial towns are the places to go. Riga is a melting pot - but a great city, nevertheless.

It's a shame that it is marred by drunken tourists (although it is probably no different from any other city in the world, in this respect) as it has so much more going for it. I don't wish to judge the people in this video - we all need to 'let it all hang out' occasionally - but I hope that such visitors only make up a small part of the total tourist traffic (ever the optimist!). ...

I lived in Riga for 2 years, 1997-99. It's a beautiful city: Beautiful buildings, beautiful language, beautiful people (both Latvian and Russian - I don't care what anyone says). It had its social and economic problems then - and, I fear, probably still has, although it has changed almost beyond recognition since I was last there. ...

I have been living my whole life in Latvia and even i hate Riga it was just disgusting and smelly, I rather prefer living in a small town where aren't so much stinky scums and russians. I was walking in the streets of Riga and some of them smelled like shit.

And yes people are very rude there have experienced it.
