  • @sonjaxfactor Officially that line is considered an urban legend and does not appear on any known recording. Groucho said people used to ask him about it for years, but claimed that he never said it. However, there is some evidence that he might indeed have said it. If so, it would have been on the January 11th, 1950 episode of the YBYL radio program when Mr. and Mrs. Story (who had 20 kids) were on the show. The edited program exists, but the raw unedited is considered lost.

  • In 1955 the $50 that each contestant would win if the secret word was spoken was equal to about $400 in today's money. That means the $50 was roughly one week's salary which explains why the winners were so excited. On this episode each couple won the maximum of $440, which of course was split in half and each person received $220. In today's money that would be equal to $1800. That's not too bad considering they also got to fool around with Groucho, the greatest comedian who ever lived.

  • @capillarian187 yeah, Groucho does say "homicide"..the audience didn't catch it! hahaha! That guy is a weirdo..Groucho handled him well!

  • That guy is a freak! Groucho reacted to him so well!

  • thirsty? do you have the video or know where i can find groucho's classic line where a woman with 12 kids came on the show and Groucho replied: "I like my cigar, too, but I take it out once in a while"

  • albert hall to groucho:

"what you're doin' there looks KINDA SOFT.."

groucho met his match when he met albert hall :)

  • the prize money for the couple's split is pretty extraordinary when you think about it.

$440 back then was like ten times that in today's terms.

the average new car back then cost just around $2000 - so, $440 - not bad for a day's run on YBYL for some of these folks!

  • No. It was Chico who was the notorious babe hound. Not Groucho.

  • that gal is hot

  • IN THE COMPOOOOOOSING ROOOOM / AND HOW LOOOOONG WERE YOU THEEEEEERE lol lol lol lol
