F-35 vs Sukhoi T-50 (PAK-FA).Two fighters that are stealth multi-role 5th generation type.F-35 Lightning II being much further along in its development is a single engine type packed with the most advanced avionics, sensors & weapons package ever devised & the Sukhoi T-50 a twin engine thrust vectoring / Supercruise type with extreme agility.both have their strengths & weakness.
i think the f-35 would be better, because they are making different models for different tasks, so in "being better than the other" there would be a model for air superiority, while others might be better equipped for bombing runs, and others for whatever might be needed

@crashalotful Anyway in every simulation or exercise where the USAF was against Russian planes (and planes alone) USAF won hands down. The main reason is AMRAAM missile's. In fact recently (couple of years ago) the USAF did an exercise with the Indian air force and the only way the Indians could get some kills against F-15 with their SU's and Mig's was if the USAF accepted to change its ROE so that they cant use the AMRAAM missiles. Btw F-22 is a very maneuverable aircraft.

@crashalotful I thought we were not talking about an entire concept here? The reason the Russians win is simple, to advance AAA weapons (S-300, S-400) very deadly stuff, u see Russian based their tactic on AAA where as interceptors are there as back up forces and it works perfectly when u are defending. U can probably find a lot of one sided web postings about how failed the F-22 and F-35 are, like I said many were against it from beginning but it still is only 5th gen in service.

@HercegodSvetogSave please see "The Truth About the Useless F-35 & F-22", review was done by RAND Corporation Research And Development (US based company). "JFF was inferior,,," "can't turn, can't run, can't climb". Pacific Vision show that how the blue team was lose to the red team (russia) too easy. and wiki vs Jan's defense Weekly. anyone can write anything on wiki.

@HercegodSvetogSave i don't have any agenda. I just saying that in a war it might be useless. If you look back, the Germans use to produce King Tiger tank which technically far superior that it has used so mush resources that it was out numbered by the T-34 and the sherman. in the air the p-51 managed to beat the luftwaffe because of sheer number. it cost 350 mil per plane vs ie 45 mil for su-35. Pierre Sprey was 1 of the 3 designer of f-16 and James Stevenson was a renown military analysis btw.

@crashalotful btw these experts say at the end: "We both would be delighted to observe any such realistic exercises and to report back to this magazine." Where as in Wikipedia article about F-22 it says: "Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI) of the integrated wing in which it received an "excellent" rating in all categories while scoring a simulated kill-ratio of 221–0." These guys don't like stealth fighters but to be 5th gen it has to be a stealth, so I don't see a point.

@crashalotful so basically what u are doing is barking other ppl agendas and opinions around? no need for experts mate here are facts: 1.only 5th gen plane in service today 2. had problems with oxygen system and was grounded but now problems resolved 3. stopped production because of cost and the fact that there is no need to keep producing something that no one else has right now in times of economic crisis. 4. USAF has 187 F-22 no one else has ANY 5th GEN. AIRCRAFT. End.

@courther I meant to say that the US can restart production of the plane, but why? No other country has 187 5th generation planes.

I thought the F-22 production was suspended because of the cost over-ride and shift in priority regarding the type of plane currently needed today. I think there are currently 187 raptors in service. One pilot from the Alaskan base was killed when his raptor crashed. I know they were having problems with the oxygen system and they were grounded. I think the problem has been resolved. The US can restart the F-22 if needed but why? No other country has 187 5th generation planes.

@HercegodSvetogSave I'm not an expert, so let just give this issue to the experts. An article by Pierre Sprey & James Stevenson "The F-22: Not what we were hoping for" which has been published in Jane's Defense Weekly. Google it. You might learn a thing or two.
