$425 Camera Ticket (chill)

Just a normal Tuesday afternoon in Redding, CA I pulled out of a gas station, drove 100 feet and made a right on red. There was no one around. No cars, no bicyclists, no pedestrians. Suddenly I was blinded by a flash from a traffic camera. I was puzzled, there was no sign prohibiting a right turn on red and I did stop before I turned. So why the photo? Well, I didn't make a full, complete stop before I turned on the abandoned road so maybe that was it. I had recently moved to California from Charlotte, NC so I was unfamiliar with this intersection.

A week later I received a letter in the mail saying that I owe near $500 because of this violation. $500! This fine in Miami, Florida is only $125. Miami has nearly 6 million MORE MOTORISTS and $300 LESS in fines?

Then I read in the Washington post that California was over penalizing traffic violators to help get the state out of debt. What? This debt was accumulated by the government's overspending and now I have to bail them out? If I overspend and go into debt the government doesn't lower my taxes to get me out of it so why are my fines raised when their debt is increased?

This is outrageous and needs to be exposed! Please help me be a voice for the people of California that are being over punished for someone else's irresponsibility.

That's why traffic violations are going up, they need money and if people complain, they tell you obey traffic laws and you wont have to pay.
