Wow, I remember this piece from - where? A filler on Frances-Marie Uitti's discs, or one of the Hat Art recordings?
In its way, one of the most extraordinary pieces ever written. For decades now it has been contemptibly fashionable in the U. S. to reject modernism. One of the most radical composers of the past century left, as perhaps his final work (I think) - a work of an utterly astonishing, haunted, almost metaphysical neo-Romanticism, which puts to shame any and all reactionary drivel.
