"My personal philosophy and I'd like to think that it's the philosophy for the whole department is that the patient always comes first; that we're here to serve the patient. We are here to do everything we possibly can to help the patient, medically, emotionally in every possible way, get through treatment and get into a survivorship mode where they're ready to move on with the rest of their life and as normal a way as they possibly can."

"When you come to see a doctor in the Abramson Cancer Center, the Department of Radiation Oncology, you should expect that that doctor will tell you about all the different options; surgery, radiation, proton therapy, chemotherapy, the whole gamut of treatment options that might be available for their cancer."

"Patients deserve to hear about those different options so that they can make the best and more informed decision about their care."

"I think what's unique about the Department of Radiation Oncology in the Abramson Cancer Center is that we're able to bring that biology with the advanced technology but we're able to do it with absolutely outstanding multi-disciplinary personnel; physicians, physicists, nurses, social workers, nutritionists."

"Having doctors and staff co-locate in one place, allows them to share different ideas about patient care, bring expertise about a patients problem to the patients bed side and really discuss and get to the heart of a patients problem and make the right decision for that individual patient. It's a gift that our patients give us; the opportunity to walk in that clinic and to try to make a difference every day in people's lives is enormously satisfying."

"I'm Dr. Steve Hahn, Professor and Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology at Penn Medicine."
