  • I think the best homage one can pay musicians like these would be to leave their music alone and don't jumble incongruent tracks together - it sounds stupid

  • (n.b. comments are in reverse order. this comment chronologically follows the one below.) caveat: the artistic achievement is technical and derivative rather than original creativity. there are websites with access to clips to allow anyone to do this sort of thing. but the masher cannot possibly have the aesthetic integrity of the source artists. sources should be acknowledged (intellectual and artistic property), and not sold as new discoveries of documentation of actual events.

  • so it's a mashup. interesting dovetailing, were tempos & pitches were manipulated, or did the editor found clips in the same key, tempo, and compatible harmonic structures? some kind of achievement in its own right. this mashup thing is becoming something of a niche artform in other musical genres (dangermouse's grey album, mashup of beatles white album & JZ's black album). jazz is where i'm at, but it's no more sacred than, say, the beatles, or elvis, or satchmo, or beethoven or whomever.

  • why not? so what?

  • Miles acknowledged that Dolphy could play, Miles just didn't like the WAY he played. On the other hand, he thought Archie Shepp didn't know HOW to play. Well, Miles was not the sweetest guy on earth, was he?

  • haha this is actually pretty funny

  • @kevinm4435 haha yeah im with you

  • This is a ridiculous attempt to splice Eric Dolphy into this Miles Davis track. It is doubtful that Miles ever had Dolphy record with him. They were both great artists but Dolphy was not Mile's style at all.

  • this editing sucks u thought no one would notice, its lame

  • I suspected that this might have been an edit; as Miles Davis allegedly spoke unflatteringly about Eric Dolphy's playing. Still, John Coltrane and Dolphy were cool and influenced each other (some saying Dolphy having the greater impact in the exchange). I'm wondering if you intended to introduce those less familiar with Dolphy thru 'Trane and Miles?
