There are two sides to everything. Self promotion is all about contacts. You must build up contacts before you can truly self promote. Importance is nothing. Just BE professional and be YOU and you will get somewhere. I believe a person is BORN to act. All we need as actors is that 1 break. I am a UK actress and am affiliated with Equity the UK equivalent of SAG. But even still I find work hard to come by. I want to join SAG but do not know how to join as a non US resident. Much success to you.

Ya know, self promotion as a means to get ahead is not just a Hollywood thing. Politics plays a part in every walk of life. My day job is a total 180 from the biz, but I've learned in order to get noticed I had to talk to the right people about my goals, my degree, my experience, etc. I thought all I had to do was work hard and have a good attitude - super naive. And it's true. So much really depends on WHO you know.

If you love acting you can still do it! you don't need to do your blogs and try to get to the top where its all about image and 'look at me im famous' at the end of the day if actings what you love why do you need fame?- you could be famous one day and not the next but what you will still have is your acting skills.
