With the recent news that Hastings Pier has been sold to a group looking to allegedly use if for residential housing, it is most certainly a time for serious thought about for supporters of the pier in the town. Would it be worth sacrificing traditional public access to 'the old girl' to see her saved in some way at least, or must we vehemently object to such a proposal? To be able to think over this very question myself, I visited the remains of the old Observer building near Clearmont. As you will see from this video, supporters of the 'save the pier' campaign like myself may have a lot of soul searching to do...
Don't know why they didn't make this building into the Jerwood.lnstead of that they go and wreck the stade and make traffic jams with confusing lights! l just hope they can do something with what's left of our pier though, living in Hastings as long as l have l miss the old pier...

The Observer building was falling down when I moved here 18 years ago. It is an utter discrace that nothing has been done in all that time.

that observer building should at least be knocked down and made safe. Remember the good old days of the pier as a boy with the man and the monkey at the end taking your picture.

Yes I agree that the pier should be for the people of the town!
