Well said. I'm already trying to act like this, although I still believe that larger groups of people need some kind of authority if they want to live peaceful. However, there are naturally some traits (gained by education or the specific culture) characteristic for people from a certain place. For germans, this is typically a somewhat elevated respect for authorites, or being quite strict around the workplace. Discipline, punctuality, things like that. At least that's my experience.

It's not explicitly forbidden for you or me to be patriotic, I'm just saying that we should go careful about it. Germany still has something to do with it, just look to the more remote spots in Saxony or Brandenburg where it is dangerous if you're not white. Also, the atrocities done by the English (just to pick up your example, this goes for most nations) are past much longer for one, and never had the scale of ours.

Also I don't think that anyone judges you as a person for anything back then.

Because this is youtube - the place where a clip of "my little pony" results in a discussion/flamewar about the ethics of slaughtering animals for food. No hard feelings :)

Isn't this kinda racist? Why I am not allowed to be patriotic but every other people in other nations are? I have not a single thing to do with WW2 and all this Hitlershit. Likewise has Germany now nothing to do with it anymore. I mean the english people aren't judged for their history anymore, why should I ?

Patriotism sucks. That being said, needing to act differently because of the nation where you were born is still nationalism, albeit a weird version of it.

Just be kind and distrust authoritarian institutions. If everyone would start doing that, the world would already be a better place.

Not you or me personally, of course, but I still think that we are obliged, as germans, to show some modesty and be a lot less patriotic than others (rightly so, as patriotism can easily lead to large-scale destrcution, as history has shown). In the end, it's 100% coincidential where you've been born, anyways.

Oh... that's surprising to hear. Thank you, I guess. But still we are to blame for the horrible atrocities we did during the war. Of course there can never be one single reason, but the result can't be justified in any way. But I do agree that the treaty of Versailles was one of the worse mistakes in history. Interestingly, nowadays we are a considerable economic power and quite unpopular in Europe (due to the Euro crisis and our role in it).

Your people certainly did wrong things at that time, but i don't consider the war as something to blame the germans, WW2 was caused by WW1 and WW1 happened because the french and the brits were afraid of the power Germany was creating, and when Germany lost the war, the Allies created laws that prevented Germany to grow back again, i think the Allies are to be blamed for the way they treated Germany, if they had not humilliated and destroyed the economy of the germans, there would be no WW2.
