linseed oil helps to waterproof clay
-
It is also more traditionaly called an Horno and origainly came from egypt then later spaniards tought early southwest natives how to make them.
-
@rcconstruciongod its supposed to be baked so the clay hardens enough so it wont wash away with the mud
-
@rcconstruciongod adobe buildings like the oldest church building in the USA (circa 1600) are made this way. The oldest buildings in England were also made this way hundreds of years ago and are still standing - - and it gets REALLY wet there. So, no. This is a very stable building material once it dries. Before it dries just put a tarp over it until it stops raining. Also, straw helps with the tensile strength.

well done.
Just wanted to say thank you, your videos gave the most comprehensive explaination of the differents types of clay you use for making ovens for the heat retaing layer and the aislating layers, and the thicknes of the layers if a bit slow. Its nice whatching you and your farm but if you want to know about how to make a stove its slow. Its really nice though sort of getting to know others from their videos.

I will post some follow up video soon. It is best to put a roof on as some of the clay can peel off. There is minor damage to ours as we did not get the roof done. the inside hardens from the heat so that is like a clay pot.

i'm going to make one of these in april/may. i have worked with cob in the house (fireplace), but not over sand. when you cob over the sand shape, does the cob shift the sand?
thanks

The sand is wet and packed so it retains its shape.
