My husband had to visit this same place the last time he was in Beeville, He was stationed there as a plane mechanic too from '67 - '69. Kool, but now the place is a prison...how sad.

No, you had it good. The NEW VT-26 hanger, not the old WWII one that you'd know as the Ops hanger. When I was there in '67 - '70, we used the VT-26 hanger to store the SAR helo and C-45 during bad weather (tornado and hurricane stuff). The C-47 had to be towed down to VT-25 and backed into the hanger with 12 inches to spare on each wingtip.

I was an Air Controller there from 82-84. It looks like at some point they built a new tower on the field because it was a part of the main building when i was there.

Thanks for the video. How did you get on base? They would not let me on when I went there over labor day weekend last year.
I was there from 86-89. Worked at AIMD. I remember the OPs Building, used to go there to report for wheels watch duty. Whoo-hoooo.
I was in the color guard and we practice in the Trawing 3 hanger. Birds used to crap on us all the time while we were marching around in there.
Thanks for the memories. If I only knew at the time how good I had it.

Ahhh, good ol chase field. Maybe you know my father who worked at VT25 from 67-70 in the avionics dept until they opened VT26 in 1970 to witch he helped build the benches for the avionics dept AIMD. He was there at AIMD vt26 from 1970 to like 1989. His name is Wayne Evans.
