I would like to know how to loosen the nut on the generator for a 1971 Super Beetle? the belt broke, so how do I keep the whole pulley from turning so I can loosen the nut?.

Stick a large screwdriver in one of the slots in the pulley and it will grab on the case bolt to lock it in place.

saw how you dropped the flex/wavey washers in the fan housing so made sure to hold the fan nut and washers all together as I eased the nut off. Now I can not seem to get the "hub that the fan rides on" off the generator shaft. You mention heating it did you bake it in the over or use a touch or what?

You can usually just pry it off with two large screw drivers, if you dont have a press you can heat it with a torch and then pry it with the screwdrivers
