NHL 10 will be the 19th video game in the NHL series released by EA Sports. The only information available so far comes from EA Sports' promotional material, which states:

"NHL 10 will introduce over 200 game refinements and will bring the real emotions from fans and a real hockey atmosphere into the game.

First person fighting will be introduced in the game to make the player feel like they are in an NHL fight. An all-new board physics engine will let the players battle for pucks on the boards letting the player shield, kick the puck, pin opponents to the glass, all while the fans bang on the glass just like in real life. Player fatigue will have players bobble passes and avoid collisions under threat of constant physical pressure. Momentum will enter the game like never before. Players will be able to start scrums after the whistle to draw penalties and to bring the fans even more into the game for that extra push of momentum needed to win. New scoring techniques will be entering the game such as scoring from your knees and hitting the puck from mid air. Players will also be able to pass the puck off the boards with the new passing system that will reduce the number of tape to tape passes and make passing more realistic.

New fan textures will make the fans look more realistic. Playoff towels will also be in the game."

Producer David Littman also confirmed in his producer blog that the PlayStation 3 version will now include customizable music.

According to the developer conference videos and the "EA Toughness trailer" for NHL 10, there will be several new goalie animations along with goalie AI improvements. This will make it harder for users to score unrealistic goals and will raise the overall skill of goalies. EA Sports currently has one specific developer that is only working on goalies that is making sure the goalies movements and AI is as realistic as possible.

Several bug fixes that EA Sports has kept concealed are also being made for NHL 10.

A new feature according to GAMEINFORMER Magazine is that the user can now one-time loose pucks. This means that when the player approaches a loose puck, the user can simply skate up to it and shoot it instantly without any stick handling or puck control.

Twists to Be-A-Pro will be made, a more in-depth franchise mode, and online modes will be completley revamped giving the gamers a more true-to-life experience, turning it from a standard NHL hockey game, to a sports MMORPG game. Be-A-Pro mode is when you get to play as a single player on any NHL team and position indicators are made for you when skating on the ice, coach tips (things to improve on), and you get to sit on the benches and watch the game for when your shift is up. In Be-a-Pro mode you can also create your very own player, start from the AHL, and work your way up to being the next NHL superstar. NHL 09 had this feature and NHL 10 built upon that.
