Dress rehearsal at the Detroit Opera House, April 2008. Soprano Ekaterina Siurina, tenor Charles Castronovo, and the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra and Chorus perform the Act II Finale of Vincenzo Bellini's "La Sonnambula" (The Sleepwalker).
Saw this opening night at the Detroit Opera House...wonderful theatre, wonderful production, wonderful performers, 'tis a wonderful life...BRAVISSIMI!!!
These 2 just sang the Pearl Fishers at San Diego Opera. Siurina is good, but at times sounds a bit inconsistent, but she was good for the role, and FAR BETTER than other Russian sopranos we've had. Castronovo is simply fantastic. Consistent voice top to bottom. His Je crois is the best I've heard. The sets are so good that they often "out performed" the singers; not Castronovo.
I really enjoy her timbre, but is she a coloratura? In other clips I've seen of her, she doesn't seem to have the high eb's.

Also note that Siurina is not giving this her all at this rehearsal, as she is of course conserving her voice for LO SPETTACOLO.
