yes, I do love those slow, soulful ballads. Thanks for the discussion on music. I plan on taking as many lessons as I can afford and have time for, for as long as I can take them.
Touche'.I minored in jazz studies in college and was a huge be bop fan.You got me there with bird and cannaonball, but I was reffering more along the lines of a "ballad".I am a BIG Allan Holdsworth fan and Mahavishnu. They play alot of notes, but thats what Fusion calls for, ballads are different. You should be a professional. You have chops, ears and PASSION!Everything you need to make a living playing music. I would work with a teacher, though. I have been on Albums and TV and still take lessons!
well, I see where you're coming from, and respect your point of view (I'm not a professional) but the fact that music is the language of the soul is the reason why I believe that it isn't up to me to tell someone he's doing it wrong. Cannonball Adderly and Charlie "bird" Parker, possibly the two best saxophonist (in the opinion of other saxophonists, anyway, in public opinion it would probably be Kenny G and David Sanborn) are known for using what many would say is too many notes.
I could not disagree more. Music is the language of the soul. The more words you use, the less effective all the words become, as in this clip. I love you is a beautiful statement. But If you say " I love you, I love you,I love you" over and over again, it becomes less important or effective with each statement ! If you get near a professional player/studio musician (which I am ), ask them. You have talent, but start taking lessons to gain "the knowledge". GOOD LUCK !
Love it...you can feel the music & glory to God

improvisation is all about the players interpretation of the music. There's nothing wrong with using a lot of notes, if that's what you need to do.
Personally, I prefer to use even fewer than the original, but... nothing wrong with what he's doing. Much better than playing note for note, anyway.
