Really sad way to end the Wing Commander series, with Blair going out.

Lol I remember that cutscene, freaked me out.

As the lead designer of Prophecy, I can tell you all that there was a huge story arc waiting for the sequels of Prophecy. I provided all of my docs to the CIC so you can see all of what happened as well as my personal notes on each one.
It all came down to time and budget. I can assure you that it had NOTHING to do with screwing the players. Ever.

Always seemed to me as a cop-out ending. It left an opening for alternate stories for another game. If they couldn't get Mark Hamill again, then he died. If they could, then he survived by going through the wormhole. Heck they could have used that as Blair spin off, turning his story into a 1st person shooter (those were pretty big at the time this game came out) and still continue with the space combat end with the other guy.

@NEBULON68 Well not exactly,
they could have killed him earlier but they needed him for
assimilating his knowledge.
They did not need him any longer

I'm too young, so I only ever played WC:Secret Ops, which was an amazing game.
First impressions of Prophecy, from watching this:
(1) Event driven music!
(2) Rearm!!
I have missed out on much ;(

The Wing Commander CIC news site recently got their hands on Origin's initial design docs and game scripts which reveal some details that are different from the final product. Namely Casey was originally called Lt. Tom Dane who was revealed to be Blair's clone/son. The developers probably felt this revelation was a little too cliche at this point so this was changed.

@Exverlobter The bug ate his bullet. Blair's death is completely unconfirmed. lol

If the aliens really wanted to kill Blair, they would have done it earlier when they had him captive. -Hmmm curious-
There were plans to bring Blair back, but as an enemy. Yes folks, this is what EA can do to a franchise. Yet another game series that has a weak final entry. Ultima and Might & Magic also had this problem.
