Eko Orlan Model 25 Update

A quick update on my gasification boiler.

Overall, I am very pleased on how the boiler has operated. Very efficient. Longest time between feedings was 29 hours with still enough coals left to restart fire. Most of the time I load wood once in the morning and once late afternoon.

I made, what I feel, is a necessary modification to the bypass lever. Without this indicator, it is easy to forget to close the bypass lever and leave the stove in an unsafe condition.

Hi there. I understand the possiblke need for the warning light on the byepass flap. I have the same problem remembering to close the door. What I don't understand is why you put the light on the machine, near the lever. If i am looking at the boiler I can see the lever is in or out. I would rather have the warning light remote to the boiler. I would probably put mine on my office desk (I work at home) or on the wall in the kitchen. That way, when i leave the boiler room, I get a warning.

@BristolBradford Good day. Initially, all I had was the light, but added the audible alarm later. I placed the light adjacent to the controls where I place the system in standby or run modes; seemed logical at the time. In hindsight, I would just install the audible signal...there is no way to leave without that annoying sound letting me know I forgot to do something...it works well. Thanks for the message!

Why would having the bypass lever in the wrong position be dangerous?

@HaywireHaywood : The function of the Bypass Lever is to allow smoke to easily vent the firebox while adding firewood (this is a downdraft system). Opening the Bypass Lever allows the flue gasses to exit straight out the back and up the chimney. Normally, the flue gasses are forced through heat exchangers then allowed to go to the chimney (Bypass closed). Leaving the Bypass Lever in Bypass allows superheated air and fire to go right up the chimney - ungood!

I figured if you were running a triple wall class 'A' 2100F flue system like Selkirk metalbestos or Simpson Duravent that it wouldn't be a problem.

Possibly, but what would be the point in letting all the heat go up the chimney? I have personally seen Metalbestos pipe that had failed to exposure to high heat. After all I had heard about Metalbestos, I was shocked to see how it collapsed.

A suggestion is to mount the beeping alarm on the outside of the building, or at least farther from where you are working to load the furnace. It is a great idea. I cannot believe the controller will burn the flame with the lever in the wrong position. I can smell a law suit if someone's property burns down because they forgot to restore lever to "run position."

hi,, I have a simple question,,, does the air being blown into the fire box chamber come up from the bottom or from the top,, or sides?  looking forward to hearing from you,, you did a smart thing,, I totally agree with your idea!!

dear all these units are made in poland and in chezc republic. i traveled to their factory a few years ago and was impressed....but not enough to import them here into ireland

Your modification with microswitch alarming is very interesting, and important too. Somebody from this industry it need to see that. Congratulations!

In Romania this kind of boilers are very popular in last 5 years, but the people-owner are ignorant with corect utilization. For example, the dry-wood and the temperature above 70 degree Celsius for boiler water are crucial for boiler life time.

The condens from upper chambre fireplace is very corosive for steel.

No point at all, but wasting heat is not the same as being dangerous. Anywho, nice system you got there. I like it. :-)
