"Sampurna" in Javanese means "ideal, perfect", while "sampur" is a Javanese dance scarf. This new theatre piece choreographed and performed by Garrett Kam uses sampur to create masks and puppets for key scenes from the Ramayana epic. Mainly danced in the Yogyakarta style of Javanese court dance, it also includes elements from Okinawa, Burma, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Bali, West Java, Taiwan and improvisation along with short narration.

  • Thanks. I can do it for the summer studies group one night if possible.

  • I see the incorporation of many dance genres, yet you have made something that only you could have created. Thank you for posting, I have be unable to see a live performance.... so you tube is a great way to see fragments.
