I am as virulently anti-cult as you are: I had two brothers in one. But mimicking Europe is not an answer, heavy government hand is not a solution.

As an attorney, I have no suspicions. If you want me to agree with you, you have to present the facts to me. While I truly believe that these people mean well, I see nothing that separates Scientologists from any other religion. They are all based on a fiction story. they all have stupid man made rules. they all seek the weak minded to follow their rules. They all want your money. They all "punish" you mentally and many physically if you do not follow the rules...

As anti-cult as I am, as horrible as these stories are, the cure this man wants is much worse than the disease. Having government run wild over individual religious rights is downright terrifying. We do have laws that protect human rights violations in this country; we can't put everything in the hands of a non-objective and inept bureaucracy; we can't allow government to make decisions about what people should and should not believe. I'll take the American way, warts and all.

So what do you suppose Dr. Kent is calling for? Death panels? I think you're over-reacting.
He is saying groups can't hide behind a religious cloak while committing Human Rights abuses. It's not about religious beliefs to say that the RPF is un-American.
If IBM sent workers on a whim to do hard labor, isolated them from family and friends for months and years, read their mail, screened their calls, there would indeed be hell to pay.
Scientology should not be able to do it, either.
