  • @hermitcrabbot The plague was spread to Europe via the capital of the Golden Horde ( Serai ) to the Black Sea, where trading vessels passed through Constantinople to Venice. Mecca and Egypt were hit the following year. During the five largest incidences of the plague ( 540, 1346, 1647, 1665 and 1720 ), I can only find volcanic activity affecting the weather in the far and middle east for the first two. Therefore, it seems to be a contributor due to cooler weather and failed harvests/famine.

  • @pockEclipse It's not my notion; I read about it as a contributing factor to the plague both in 540 and 1347. After further study in response to your question, the eruptions of Rabaul Caldera and Vanuatu were contributing factors in these two most deadly episodes of the plague. I withdraw my contention that they were 'most likely' responsible for the plague. The infamous Black Death of 1347 originated in China in the Hangchow district in the 1320's. This was after the eruption of Vanutau.

  • @hermitcrabbot are you proposing the notion that a change of temperature spontaneously created a disease?

  • Most likely the eruption of the Rabaul Caldera Volcano was responsibile for the Black Death: it erupted massively in 540, blotting out the sun for two summers. The infected fleas likely came from Egypt with the grain shipments. The much cooler temperatures in the desert gave the fleas the disease.

  • Sucks how, just as roman civilization was regaining its strength, a massive plague kills half the population and makes a lunatic out of Emperor Justinian.

  • That fucking flickering gives ne an headache..

  • that is one brave and hot woman, she is awesome, sigh..........
