In the early 1900s, British, French, Polish and American missionaries climbed the formidable Biluo Snow Mountain to spread Christianity in the Nu River Valley, a little-traveled place even nowadays. They made it, and today 70% of the local Lisu Minority and 50% of the Nu Minority are Christians. Many of them gathered at Laomudeng Church, reportedly the biggest and the most beautiful one in the area, to celebrate Christmas, in the language of the Lisu Minority.
