Rex Burkholder, from his speech during the party launching his campaign for Metro President, November 20th, 2009. "Metro is a regional table that we gather around to solve problems. It's 25 cities, three counties, I don't know how many special districts, 1.5 million citizens that are wrestling with some really hard challenges. Metro is the place where that happens. The Metro Council President's job is to make sure all those voices are at the table: black, white, brown, poor, well-to-do, suburban, urban, labor, environmentalist -- all those voices need to be there if we're going to going to solve things. This is what I learned as a kid and what I learned as an adult, and what we need to remember as we move forward. And as Metro Council President, that's what I will promise to do."
