New York State Police D.O.T. inspection Route 9 south of Poughkeepsie NY. There was another load getting inspected parked ahead of us. Last week in August, D.O.T. inspections...I'm sure it has nothing to do with quotas as I've been told, just seems awfully coincidental that the first and last weeks of the month there area lot more inspections.

This DOT cop was just doing his job and had another load on the shoulder ahead of us. Although I can't fault him for doing his job, pulling us over on the shoulder on busy Route 9 and having us wait for him to complete the other inspection wasn't the safest decision.

Some Times thats the only place to do an inspection, are you going to make the truck driver poosibly back track to a weight station and do a check there?

@pilotcartv ; NOT SAFE AT ALL!! In our state, there are signs on the shoulders that say "emergency parking only". What would they cosider an emergency? A routine inspection, on the shoulder of a busy hiway? That creates more hazerdous conditions than they are trying to prevent. I supose if someone crossed over the fog line, & hit the truck driver or the trooper, then there would be an "emergency".

im not a cop n i get pulled n checked too there just making sure the truck will not kill other drivers cause really some trucker dont do any matenence at all ,how would you feel if your going on a vaction road trip and a truck throws a part off and kills a family member these are some things to think about

Lets be honest here, cops are people so they hate court just like everyone else does. Every time they write a summons they are subjecting themselves to a reeming in court. If it doesent come from the judge it comes from the defendant and if it doesent come from the defendant it comes from a defense attorney. So if there was no quota to meet I'm sure almost no tickets would be written.... unless of course the cop was particularly pissed off.
