Are YOU Cherokee? Eastern Cherokee? If you emigrate out of a country are you still a citizen of that country? What if you DO NOT leave the country? Why are you Not considered still a citizen? We think that is ridiculous-- we believe the descendants of those Cherokee who REMAINED in the HOMELAND didn't stop being Cherokees! Here we list SOME of the rolls YOU can use to determine if YOU are a Cherokee descendant. We encourage you to examine your family tree and these rolls. If you have even "just" one ancestor on ANY of these lists, then please let us know who you are... for you are part of us and we all need each other! At the end you will see an email link and a link to our google group where you can read more about us and what we are working together toward-- we hope to hear from you very soon! sgi!
NOTE: Everyone talks about the "First" removal of 1838-- but that was NOT the first... all the "emigrations" forced prior to these we ALSO consider to be "removals" because our people did not willingly abandon their homeland but considered it a TEMPORARY strategical retreat in order to protect the babies and the elders and so preserve our nation for future generations. Always, our ancestors declared "WE WILL RETURN!" and as often as they were able, they did, have, and their descendants continue to do so.

  • Thank you for posting this, it gives me some hope. I know my grandfather's grandmother was Cherokee, she was alive until I was 3 and I remember her. I was very attached to my grandparents and feel I was raised with Cherokee culture identity and values but have not been able to figure out how to get enrollment. I will keep trying to find her name. We called her "Nanny" or Naniel Williams. We were told Trail of Tears stories about our ancestor being 5 years old on the trail and parents killed

  • My grandmother's parents were both half cherokee. My grandfather's mom was also half cherokee. We are not sure about my father's side.

  • My grandmother, on my dads side was half Cherokee... Their family was forced to leave the Carolinas when they were just kids... I will have to search the rolls to see if I can find the family name..... thanks for the information on 'youtube'. Reuben Meeks, of Vandalia, Ohio...

  • @QueenAceKing I know other Mercers who are Cherokee.

  • the roles truly are messed up though they excluded so many who were by blood belonged to the tribe. It's really messed up

  • Very informative! 5 stars!

  • Also, her birthday was July 20, 1858.... she was called Lizzy... she died at 95yrs. of age.

  • I don't know if my great great grandmother was on any scrolls, but I do know that she was full-blooded Cherokee. She married into a white family. Her name was Elizabeth Mercer (maiden) I don't know if that was an adopted name or what...
